Abdul Samad is an Indian right-handed middle-order batter and occasional right-arm leg-break bowler. He primarily operates as a lower-order batter utilized in the final overs of an innings. He is the third cricketer from Jammu & Kashmir to earn an Indian Premier League (IPL) contract.Samad made his IPL debut with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2020 after being acquired for ₹20 Lakh. He spent five seasons with the franchise. During the 2024 season, he scored 182 runs across 16 matches at a strike rate of 168.52.Ahead of the 2025 mega auction, Samad was purchased by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for ₹4.20 Crore. During his 2025 season with LSG, he played 13 matches and scored 164 runs with a strike rate of 176.34, achieving a high score of 45. LSG officially retained him at for the 2026 season. Across his 63-match IPL career to date, Samad has accumulated 741 runs at an overall strike rate of 151.84, registering 50 sixes and 45 fours.In the domestic circuit, Samad was a core member of the squad that secured Jammu & Kashmir's first-ever Ranji Trophy championship during the 2025-26 season. In the final against Karnataka, he contributed scores of 61 and 32. Across the tournament, he finished as the team's leading run-scorer, accumulating 748 runs in 10 matches, including one century and five half-centuries.
